Support and resources for URI community during election season
Nov. 4, 2024
Dear URI Community,
As the presidential election approaches, we want to take this moment to reaffirm URI’s unwavering commitment to free speech, and to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive community. We understand that political discourse can spark strong emotions and differing views, which we welcome as part of a vibrant campus dialogue. We ask all members of our community to engage in discussions with civility and respect, honoring each person’s perspective. In times of both agreement and discord, it’s our capacity to work together and empathize with one another that truly matters.
During this period, we recognize that academic stress, midterms, and the impact of national and international events may add to personal pressures. If you are feeling anxious about what the election results may mean for you, your family, and your friends, there are campus resources available to you.
Support Resources
During this time, it’s important to prioritize mental health. If you are experiencing stress or anxiety, please remember that support is available:

Upcoming Post-Election Events
Additionally, we will host several post-election events designed to be spaces for relaxation and decompression. These gatherings are not intended to be open forums for political or election discussions, but are dedicated to reflection, self-care, and connecting with peers in a supportive environment.
• Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2-4 p.m., Roosevelt Hall room 221
• Thursday, Nov. 7, 2-4 p.m., Memorial Union room 314
• Thursday, Nov. 7, 5-7 p.m., Hillel Center (Hamsa Craft Night — registration required)
• Friday, Nov. 8, 2 p.m., “Crafternoon” in Hillside Hall Classroom
• Friday, Nov. 8, 4-6 p.m., Health Services, Health Promotion, Lower Level
Please explore other campus offerings as well. Check with other affinity groups and centers, or with faculty and staff for support.
If you are concerned about a student’s or employee’s well-being, safety, or threat of violence, report it. If you experience or witness an act of bias, please submit a bias report.
Moving Forward Together
As we reflect on the election results and look ahead, I encourage all of you to focus on our strengths and aspirations, supporting one another. Remember, we are all Rams and by voting and participating in civic engagement, we have the power to shape our future.
Thank you for your dedication to fostering a respectful and inclusive community at URI.
