DAI adopted the motto, “The Future Is Accessible,” because we are committed to collaboratively improving access at URI through advocacy and education on dismantling barriers which have historically marginalized disabled students. As campus leaders in equity excellence, DAI employs a transformative justice approach, continually assessing and when possible, resolving systemic barriers, decolonizing policies, and improving practices. Access and Inclusion are the shared responsibility of all community members and must be integrated consistently and sustainably into all aspects of campus life. DAI does not expect mastery of disability best practices from faculty, rather, our mission affirms a commitment to partnering with individuals and departments to continually make progress in creating equitable access by design.
