Electrical Engineering M.S.
Program Requirements
The requirements for the M.S. program in Electrical Engineering are structured as follows:
Credit Requirements
- You must complete a minimum of 30 credits, which include engineering mathematics and/or science courses.
- At least 16 credits must be from formal graduate electrical engineering (ELE) courses, excluding ELE 601 and ELE 602 (departmental seminars).
Course Restrictions
- A maximum of 12 credits can be taken from senior undergraduate (400-level) courses in engineering, mathematics and/or science.
- Up to three credits can be from special problems or independent study courses (ELE 591/592/691/692).
- All full-time graduate students are required to enroll in the departmental seminar ELE 601 every semester it is offered.
Thesis and Non-Thesis Options
- Thesis Option: Involves 6-9 credits of thesis research (ELE 599), where six credits are standard. More than six credits require approval from your thesis committee and the Graduate Director/Department Chair.
- Non-Thesis Option: You must complete a Master’s Project (ELE 598).
Additional Academic Standards:
- A grade of B- or higher is required for any 400-level course.
- A grade of C or higher is required for 500- and 600-level courses.
- You must be enrolled in at least 1 credit during your graduation semester.
Program of Study:
- This form, specifying your major professor and course plan, should be submitted no later than the end of the 2nd semester for full-time students and the 3rd semester for part-time students. The form can be revised but must match the courses on your transcript.
Thesis Defense (for the Thesis Option)
- A thesis committee must be established, and a Thesis Proposal must be submitted during the 1st or 2nd semester of research credits. The thesis defense should be scheduled only after obtaining unanimous approval from your committee.
