Medical Emergency

If you encounter someone experiencing a medical emergency (examples: heart attack, loss of consciousness, large loss of blood, or serious accident):

  • Call 9-1-1 immediately. Report your location and as much information as possible about the nature of the emergency. DO NOT hang up until directed to do so by the emergency operator.
  • If you are unable to call 9-1-1, contact the URI Police Department at 401 874 4910 or activate one of the blue light emergency phones on campus.
  • Render first aid, if qualified.
  • DO NOT attempt to move the injured/sick person unless they are in immediate danger.
  • Stay with the injured person until EMS arrives.
  • Have someone meet and escort public safety officials to the victim.
  • DO NOT jeopardize your health and safety to render care.
