Gary A. Baker is currently the managing director PlugShare in El Segundo, CA. He brings a unique perspective to the board as both a URI engineer and as a technology professional with broad international experience. After receiving his undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering and applied mathematics from URI in 1988, for the first phase of his career, Gary worked at Texas Instruments in various design engineering roles. In recognition of his technical achievements, Gary was elected senior member, technical staff in 1994, recognition only awarded to the top-five percent of the TI technical community. Products designed by Gary and his teams have been produced in the hundreds of millions of units and his work has been recognized with the award of 11 US patents. Continuing with TI into the late ‘90’s, Gary made the transition to marketing and business development, earning an MBA from Columbia in 2001. Gary’s tenure with TI concluded in 2006 with the spin-off of Sensata from TI. At that time, having completed an expat assignment in Shanghai, Gary returned to the US to lead the business development activities of the newly formed Sensata Technologies. Gary served as vice president of business development, based in Attleboro, MA. He is a member of Tau Beta Pi, the national engineering honor society and Beta Gamma Sigma, the international honor society recognizing achievement in business programs.
