The Capstone Design is a year-long, team-based project that serves as the culminating experience for undergraduate engineering students at URI. Throughout the academic year, seniors work collaboratively to tackle real-world engineering challenges, applying what they’ve learned in the classroom to design, build, and present innovative solutions.
Working in close collaboration with faculty mentors and often with industry sponsors, students design, build, test, and present innovative engineering solutions. Projects span a wide range of disciplines – from robotics and renewable energy to biomedical devices and smart infrastructure.
Each year, students present their work at the Capstone Design Showcase, a signature event of E-Week. The showcase is open to the public and brings together engineering faculty, staff, students, industry partners, and the families of graduating seniors to interact with student teams, learn about their design process, and discuss the impact of their work.
Have a project idea or want to sponsor a team?
We welcome industry partners, alumni, and community members to propose real-world challenges for our students to tackle. Sponsoring a Capstone Design project is a great way to engage with emerging engineering talent, support innovation, and contribute to the education of the next generation of engineers.
