Advising and Academic Planning

At the College of Engineering, academic advising is a vital resource to help you navigate your degree, make informed course selections, and prepare for your career. From your first year to graduation, our advising team supports your academic progress and professional development every step of the way. This page outlines advising contacts, academic milestones, important resources, and the processes that keep you on track toward graduation.

Academic Advising

All engineering students are required to meet with their academic advisor at least once per semester until graduation. Appointments can be scheduled through Starfish.  Students in the International Engineering Program (IEP) must also meet with their IEP Director to stay on track with both engineering and language requirements.

First-Year Advising

All first-year students are assigned an an engineering-specific advisor from the University College for Academic Success (UCAS), located in Roosevelt Hall.  UCAS advisors help you build a strong academic foundation as you begin your major.

Engineering Academic Advisors

To transition into the College of Engineering (COE), students must meet specific academic requirements.  Once admitted, you’ll be assigned an engineering academic advisor from the Engineering Student Success Center (Bliss Hall, Suite 420) and faculty mentor in your major.

Faculty Mentors

Faculty mentors support students in their academic and professional development. They offer guidance on career preparation, graduate school, and areas of study. As mentors, they serve as sounding boards beyond course planning. Students should contact their mentor directly to schedule a meeting.
