Theta Tau – Sigma Gamma

Theta Tau is a co-ed professional engineering fraternity. The purpose of Theta Tau is to develop and maintain a high standard of professional interest among its members and to unite them in a strong bond of fraternal fellowship. Theta Tau separates itself from being a social fraternity by encompassing a common, professional goal.

Admission to Theta Tau

To be eligible for admission, an applicant must be pursuing a degree in one of URI’s engineering majors. Seeking admission to Theta Tau involves rushing and pledging.

Rushing
At the beginning of each semester, Theta Tau has a “rush period” when the fraternity hosts a week of events to raise awareness and interest in the fraternity. At the end of the week, a number of candidates are chosen by the brotherhood to receive bids.

Pledging
Once a candidate is extended a bid and they accept it, they begin the pledging process, which consists of weekly meetings with a group of brothers who share their knowledge of the fraternity’s history, values and unique bonds. At the end of this process, if the brotherhood finds the candidate to be an excellent fit with the fraternity, the candidate is extended an offer of brotherhood.

Umbrella Organization

Theta Tau has become the oldest and largest fraternity for engineers, with chapters across the country and members around the world.
