The Fam Lab studies how families navigate adversity, paying particular attention to how maternal health, family functioning, and caregiving influence child development. At the Fam Lab we use community-based participatory action methods, partnering with community organizations and families with lived experiences of adversity to co-create studies that fill real-life needs. The goal of the Fam Lab is to strengthen families’ resilience through research on family-level predictors of child outcomes, the impact of family interventions on child health and wellbeing, and how policies affect families experiencing adversity. Currently, the Fam Lab is focused on maternal incarceration and its impact on children and their families.
