David Mixner LGBTQ+ Fellowship

The Institute of Current World Affairs is accepting letters of interest for a two-year independent writing fellowship abroad from candidates interested in examining challenges facing global LGBTQ+ rights and the local experiences of LGBTQ+ people and other minorities. The fellow would be based in one of the following possible regions: Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Francophone Africa or Asia (especially China, Taiwan or Singapore). The fellowship is named in honor of David Mixner, an American political activist and writer best known for his work in international human rights and LGBTQ+ rights advocacy. He has led efforts to prevent and fight HIV/AIDS across the globe for more than 40 years.

ICWA provides full financial support for its fellows and their immediate accompanying families. Fellows do not receive salaries; the institute gives them sufficient funding to cover their expenses, enabling them to fulfill the purposes of the fellowship and allowing them and their families (if accompanying the fellowship) to live in good health and reasonable comfort. “Full financial support” does not mean unlimited financial support; fellows are expected to live and spend modestly.
