Biography
Lauren Jensen is Deputy General Counsel at URI, where she supports the overall administration of the Office of the General Counsel and handles a diverse array of legal matters across the university. Lauren’s primary areas of responsibility include litigation and disputes, civil rights and constitutional issues, enterprise risk management and compliance, campus safety and law enforcement, student affairs, employment matters, research and sponsored projects administration, and university governance and open government laws.
Prior to joining URI in June 2020, Lauren was a Deputy Attorney General in the New Jersey Department of Law and Public Safety, Division of Law, where she served most recently as the Section Chief of the Education and Higher Education Section. In that position, Lauren counseled the New Jersey Department of Education, the New Jersey State Colleges, and other education and higher education authorities, and handled complex litigation on behalf of those entities before state and federal courts and administrative agencies. Before that, Lauren served as Law Clerk to the Honorable Michael J. Haas, J.A.D, in the New Jersey Appellate Division.
Lauren received a B.A. in History and Philosophy from Fairfield University and a J.D. from Rutgers School of Law – Camden. She is admitted to practice law in Rhode Island, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, as well as the District of New Jersey and the Third Circuit Court of Appeals.
