Fellowships & Academic Opportunities

You may receive additional support from the Office of National Fellowships & Academic Opportunities, which advises and assists qualified undergraduates interested in applying for national and international scholarships and fellowships. The office also supports recent URI alumni and current graduate students in applying for certain highly prestigious national and international awards and fellowships, which require nomination or endorsement.

Boren Awards for International Study
Boren Awards support graduate and undergraduate students studying languages, cultures, and world areas critical to U.S. interests.

Critical Language Scholarship Program
A program of the United States Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program will offer intensive summer language institutes overseas in thirteen critical need foreign languages for summer 2011. The selection process will be administered by the Council of American Overseas Research Centers (CAORC) with awards approved by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. The CLS Program will be administered by CAORC and the American Councils for International Education.

The German Academic Exchange Service, (German acronym, DAAD)
DAAD offers scholarships to students and scholars for study and research opportunities in Germany.

The Killam Undergraduate Fellowships for Americans

The Killam Fellowships Program provides an opportunity for exceptional undergraduate students from universities in the United States to spend either one semester or a full academic year as an exchange student in Canada. Students may participate in the program either as a direct exchange student or as a self-placed visiting student. Applicants interested in the direct exchange program must be registered at one of the participating American universities and be planning to visit one of the participating Canadian universities.
