The William & Sharon Flynn International Study Abroad Opportunity Fund

Background: Recognizing the transformative impact of international learning experiences, the William & Sharon Flynn International Study Abroad Opportunity Fund provides grants for undergraduate and graduate students for international study related to their academic area(s) of interest.

Selection Criteria: To qualify for this grant, applicants must be engaged in an intensive language experience that emphasizes in-depth experiential learning and/or scholarly research. This scholarship will be awarded on a competitive basis, with preference given to those students who demonstrate financial need.

Eligibility: Current matriculated undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Rhode Island (URI) in any academic field who are engaged in a credit-bearing intensive language experience that emphasizes in-depth experiential learning and/or scholarly research. Applicants must be participating in a program that is at least one month in duration during the upcoming summer term or fall semester, spring semester, or for the academic year.

Funding Level: Awards typically range from $500 to $2000.

Since its inception during the 2016-2017 academic year, more than 50 URI students have received scholarships to help fund their study abroad experiences thanks to the William & Sharon Flynn International Study Abroad Fund.
