Position: Graduate Assistant
Position Description: 

URI Graduate School’s Office of Professional Development provides career and job search services and professional skill building support URI’s graduate community of approximately 2,000 in-person and online master’s, PhD, certificate students in all stages of their graduate careers. These services and support take the form of programs, workshops, individual advising, online resources, newsletters, Graduate Success Coaching, and more. The Graduate School’s Director of Professional Development seeks a Graduate Assistant to assist with all aspects of this work. This includes: 

  • Providing content and drafting weekly newsletters
  • Updating and expanding professional development website resources
  • Creating Power Point presentations on relevant subject areas and sample job search materials for various disciplines
  • Developing and presenting programs and workshops to graduate students on career and professional development and providing event support for other programs
  • Training leading to working directly with students on job application materials

A successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Strong commitment to best practices for diversity, equality, accessibility, and inclusion
  • Comfort with ambiguity, demonstrated discretion and confidentiality
  • Customer-oriented, professional, positive attitude and ability to interact respectfully and responsively with all levels of staff, faculty, students and other constituents from diverse communities
  • Ability to work collaboratively, as well as independently
  • A high degree of accuracy, attention to detail, and strong writing/editing skills
  • A high level of computer skills proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and webpage software such as HTML, or Wix and experience contributing to and/or managing website content
  • Experience contributing to and/or managing professional social media accounts, such as LinkedIn, Instagram and Twitter
  • Fluency with additional tools for design and communications (such as Canva or Adobe Creative Suite)
  • Interest in graduate career and professional development
