Biography

Dr. Elizabeth (Lizz) Whitney is a biogeochemist with a passion for science communication. Her studies examine the impacts of sea level rise and ocean acidification on the movement of dissolved organic carbon in coastal environments. She also has extensive training in meeting facilitation and communicating science to a broad range of audiences. This has prepared her to deliver workshops focused on running smooth meetings and navigating challenging conversations with empathy. Prior to her current role as a Knauss Marine Policy Fellow at NOAA, Lizz completed her Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering at the University of Delaware and served as a Chemistry professor at State University of New York, Cobleskill. She has years of experience in empowering students to become better communicators and believes that communication is the key to a high quality workplace environment.
