Meta Research issues RFP for 2022 Privacy Enhancing Technologies

Deadline: April 20, 2022 | Meta Research has issued a request for proposals for its 2022 Privacy Enhancing Technologies program, which supports privacy-focused projects in academia.  The areas of interest are privacy-preserving analytics, including differential privacy for anonymization, differential privacy for database management systems, and re-identification measurement; private record linkage and aggregation, including asymmetric MPC, multi-key private record linkage, and complex aggregations in MPC; privacy-preserving machine learning, including model capacity, trust models, differential privacy in PPML, and mixed training data sets; privacy of messaging; anonymous credentials; privacy-preserving techniques in Data for Good; and privacy in Metaverse.  Meta Research anticipates awarding eight to 10 awards, each in the $80,000 to 100,000 range.


Simons Foundation Autism Research Initiative invites proposals for 2022 Human Cognitive and Behavioral Science program

Deadline: April 25, 2022 | The Simons Foundation Autism Research Initiative’s (SFARI) mission is to improve the understanding, diagnosis, and treatment of autism spectrum disorders (ASD) by funding innovative research of the highest quality and relevance.  To that end, SFARI has issued an RFP for its 2022 Human Cognitive and Behavioral Science Program, which will work to prioritize research that produces foundational knowledge about the neurobehavioral differences associated with ASD to directly inform the development or refinement of tools needed for translational efforts, such as biomarkers and outcome measures. 
SFARI now offers two tracks within this RFA solicitation:
Explorer Track: Appropriate for early-stage projects, where establishing feasibility and proof-of-concept is the most relevant outcomes of the grant period. The total budget is $500,000 or less, inclusive of 20 percent indirect costs, over a period of up to two years.
Expansion Track: Appropriate for more mature projects with evidence of feasibility and preliminary validity, goals such as scalability, generalizability, and/or ecological validity are now the most relevant translational outcomes. The total budget is $900,000 or less, inclusive of 20 percent indirect costs, over a period of up to three years.

Elsa U. Pardee Foundation invites proposals for cancer research

Deadline: April 30, 2022  | Before her death from breast cancer in 1944, Elsa U. Pardee directed $1 million in Dow stock be devoted to the “control and cure of cancer.” The Elsa U. Pardee Foundation was formed in her memory by the family she left behind.  To that end, the Elsa U. Pardee Foundation invites applications from investigators at nonprofit institutions in the United States who are working to identify new treatments or cures for cancer.  The foundation encourages one-year proposals that enable all the capabilities of a new cancer researcher or a new cancer approach by an established cancer researcher to be established.  In addition, the project should identify the relevance of the project to cancer detection, treatment, or cure.

Wenner-Gren Foundation invites applications for anthropological research grants

Deadline: May 1, 2022 | The Wenner-Gren Foundation is committed to playing a leadership role in anthropology and works to help anthropologists advance anthropological knowledge, build sustainable careers, and amplify the impact of anthropology on the broader world.  To that end, the foundation is inviting applications for its Post-PhD Research Grants program, which will award grants of up to $20,000in support of research that demonstrates a clear link to anthropological theory and debates and promises to make a solid contribution to advancing these ideas. There is no preference for any methodology, research location, or subfield.  Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent degree and may apply regardless of institutional affiliation, country of residence, or nationality. 

Mark Foundation for Cancer Research invites applications for Emerging Leader Awards

Deadline: May 2, 2022 | The Mark Foundation for Cancer Research supports scientists in answering the most complex questions in cancer.  To that end, the foundation invites applications for its Emerging Leader Awards program, which will award grants of up to $750,000 over three years to outstanding early-career investigators in support of high-impact, high-risk projects distinct from their current research portfolio. Projects for this award must be centered on evidence-based laboratory data and/or medical science.  Applicants must have an MD, PhD, or equivalent and be employed by a U.S. or Canadian nonprofit academic institution.

William T. Grant Foundation issues RFP for research grants on improving the use of research evidence

Deadline: May 4, 2022 | The William T. Grant Foundation invests in high-quality research focused on reducing inequality in youth outcomes and improving the use of research evidence in decisions that affect young people in the United States.  To that end, the foundation invites applications for Research Grants on Improving the Use of Research Evidence, which funds research studies that advance theory and build knowledge on improving the use of research evidence by policy makers, agency leaders, organizational managers, intermediaries, and other decision makers that shape youth-serving systems in the United States.  The foundation invites studies from various disciplines, fields, and methods and encourages investigations into different youth-serving systems, including justice, housing, child welfare, mental health, and education.  The foundation will award research grants of between $100,000 and $1 million over two to four years, and officers’ research grants of between $25,000 and $50,000 over one to two years.

Robert Wood Johnson Foundation invites applications for Interdisciplinary Research Leaders program

Deadline: May 4, 2022 | The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation has issued a call for applications for its Interdisciplinary Research Leaders program.  The goal for the 2022 IRL program is to generate high-quality, community-engaged research helpful in dismantling structural racism, improving health, and advancing health equity.  There is an urgent need to identify solutions for eliminating and reversing the devastating effects of structural racism.  For the 2022 cohort, the RWJF will select up to 15 teams of three mid-career individuals each (two researchers and a community leader) from diverse disciplinary backgrounds or scientific perspectives.  The applicant organization will receive up to $125,000 for each team’s specific research project, including a $25,000 stipend per fellow per year. 

National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, CZI invite applications for Science Diversity Leadership program

Deadline: May 19, 2022 | The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine is partnering with the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative in support of new funding opportunities aimed at recognizing and furthering the leadership and scientific accomplishments of excellent biomedical researchers who—through their outreach, mentoring, and teaching—have a record of promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in their scientific fields.  Applicants should have made significant research contributions to the biomedical sciences, shown promise for continuing scientific achievement, and demonstrated leadership in diversifying the sciences.  Each grant recipient will be awarded a total of $1.15 million over five years, with the first two cohorts of grantees selected in 2022 and 2023.

Women’s Sports Foundation invites applications for multigenerational movement-based programming

Deadline: May 31, 2022 | The Women’s Sports Foundation, together with Athleta, is inviting applications for its Move Together grant program, which will support organizations that foster multigenerational connections in their communities through sport, fitness, and movement-based programming for girls and women.  Grants will be awarded in support of programs that offer existing programming elements or have the ability to develop new programming or enhancements that promote multigenerational connections between girls and women; deliver and provide access to sport, fitness, or movement-based programming as a primary focus, display innovation in its efforts to engage girls and women; and have the ability to sustain long-term programming after the life of the funding has expired.  Through the programgrants ranging from $5,000 and $10,000 will be awarded, for a total of $250,000.
