Graduate School Badge Programs

To support our commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice, the Graduate School proudly offers two micro-credential badge programs, each with their own set of workshops, designed to empower our graduate students with the knowledge, skills, and respect needed to thrive in a culturally diverse world.

  • The Diversity and Inclusion Badge Program offers professional development workshops that emphasize the conceptual framework, practical skill development, and dispositions needed for cultural competence in a variety of environments.
  • The Equitable and Inclusive Teaching and Pedagogy Badge Program is tailored to graduate students looking to enhance their teaching skills as teaching assistants or instructors of record, apply for faculty positions, and deepen their understanding of equitable and inclusive teaching practices.

Diversity and Inclusion Badge Program

The Diversity and Inclusion Badge Program (DIBP) is a customizable micro-credential aligned with the university’s diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice goals. The DIBP offers graduate-level, professional development workshops that emphasize the knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed for cultural competence in a variety of environments.

This program provides students with the conceptual framework and practical skill development necessary to cultivate inclusion in diverse work environments. To complete the Professional Development Badge in Diversity and Inclusion, students attend five sessions offered by the Diversity and Inclusion program. One of those sessions must be “Fundamentals of Diversity.” Each session runs about an hour.

Equitable and Inclusive Teaching and Pedagogy Badge Program

The Equitable and Inclusive Teaching and Pedagogy (EITP) Badge Program is a micro-credential program aligned with URI’s diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice goals. The EITP Badge offers graduate-level, professional development workshops for students interested in:

  • Improving their teaching as teaching assistants and instructors of record
  • Applying for faculty teaching positions
  • Learning more about equitable and inclusive teaching, pedagogy, and their
    application

The goals of the EITP Badge Program are to enable URI’s graduate students (i) to learn strategies to make their courses, classrooms (and other learning environments), and teaching more equitable, and (ii) to exemplify diversity, equity and inclusion commitment and skills to potential employers by drafting a teaching statement and earning a micro-credential to note on job application materials and digital profiles.

2024-2025 EITP Workshops:

To earn the EITP, you must complete all five of these workshops.

The following additional workshops are not required to complete the EITP Badge, but are suggested for those interested in these important subjects:

  • Accessible Course Design, Spring 2025
  • Resources for Those Who Teach and Those Who ARE First Generation Students, Spring 2025
