Biography
Dr. Beth Meyerand is Vice Provost and Dean of the Graduate School at the University of Rhode Island. She is also a biomedical engineer and medical physicist whose career has focused on graduate education, interdisciplinary research training, and faculty mentorship.
Prior to joining URI, Dr. Meyerand served in multiple academic leadership roles at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, including Associate Dean of the Graduate School and Vice Provost for Faculty and Staff Affairs. She also served as Chair of the Department of Biomedical Engineering. In these roles, she worked closely with faculty, departments, and university leadership on graduate education policy, mentoring initiatives, faculty development, and research training programs.
Dr. Meyerand’s research focused on advanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) methods and the development of imaging tools to better understand human physiology and disease. She has collaborated across engineering, medicine, and the physical sciences and has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals.
She has also been deeply involved in graduate and research training programs supported by the National Institutes of Health. She served as Co-Principal Investigator and Co-Director of a NIH T32 training program in Clinical Neuroengineering and another in Biotechnology, both of which supported interdisciplinary doctoral training.
In her leadership roles, Dr. Meyerand focuses on strengthening graduate education, supporting interdisciplinary research training, and building effective mentoring environments for graduate students, postdoctoral scholars and faculty. She has been actively involved in national efforts to improve research mentoring and graduate student success.
