Biography

Kelton McMahon (He/Him) is an Associate Professor in the Graduate School of Oceanography at URI. His lab examines how marine food webs influence ecosystem structure and function, and how climate change and human-environment interactions alter those relationships. Much of his work centers on the co-production of knowledge with Indigenous communities to support the development of place-based, ecosystem management. Dr. McMahon is dedicated to decolonizing ecology and geosciences. He is active at URI and on the national level to make geosciences more diverse and inclusive. He has led workshops on building diverse mentor networks, decolonizing STEM, and Male Allyship.
