Merging Your CV and Resume

When applying to non-academic research oriented positions or administrative jobs at universities or community colleges, you can send a cross between a CV and a resume. This document would provide more content than a typical resume (such as research and publications), but shorter than a CV and have more measurable achievements.

Format

The length is between 1.5-2 pages, and geared to show how your academic background, achievements, experience, and skills prepare you for a particular position. The audience are employers who value academic experience.

For humanities and science positions, relevant experience could include work at community colleges, libraries, industry research, and post-secondary administration. For positions as a scientist, it would be helpful to have experience in working in venture capital firms, market research, consulting for non-profits, and being a technology specialist at patent law firms.
