Gale Eaton

Biography

Gale Eaton, professor emerita, served as Director of the Graduate School of Library and Information Studies (2006-2012). Since retiring, she has taught the spring 2013 section of Collection Management (LSC 503) and published The Education of Alice M. Jordan: Navigating a Career in Children’s Librarianship (Rowman & Littlefield, 2014). Earlier publications include Well-Dressed Role Models: The Portrayal of Women in Biographies for Children (Scarecrow, 2006) and journal articles on wayfinding in library buildings. Eaton chairs the RI Coalition of Library Advocates and devotes time to writing.

Eaton joined the URI faculty in 1988. Her previous life as a children’s librarian, storyteller, and occasional puppeteer unfolded at the Boston Public Library (1970-1977) and the Berkshire Athenaeum (1977-1984).
