Biography

Deirdre Morrison is a graduate of URI. Her personal and professional mission is to communicate effectively, ethically, and compassionately. She earned a B.A. in Communication Studies and Spanish from UMASS Amherst and an MBA from URI. These degrees led her to a rewarding and successful career as a leader in global and multicultural corporations, and she attributes much of her success to her communication studies and skills.

Deirdre loves to teach! She strives to be an encouraging supporter, a positive and healthy role model, and a useful guide for resources. She is committed to delivering clear, consistent, and peaceful communications through all her interactions. Her goal as an educator is to encourage and inspire students to develop and share their most positive attributes and energies, by fostering a positive learning environment that allows students to cultivate meaning from the academic material, leading them to flourish and achieve their visions.

Deirdre believes that we are all lifelong learners in the skill of communication, and as global citizens must develop effective, ethical, and compassionate communication skills to optimize our positive civic engagement with our world. The study of communication ethics and intercultural communication is an enlightening path to developing a deeper understanding of all those around us. Through the study of communication, we take an in-depth look at the influence of media on our culture and our social interactions. We also learn about social justice, environmental sustainability, public health, resilience, and other related topics. Our ears and eyes are open to all that is happening around us.  By focusing on improving our communication skills, we are better able to effectively articulate our thoughts, which affords us a powerful way to engage in the world.

Deirdre is also a certified level 1 trainer in Kingian Nonviolence Conflict Reconciliation, and a certified yoga teacher & guided meditation facilitator. Deirdre believes that peaceful and effective communication leads us all to a better life.  She is also the proud and loving mother of Declan, who is attending college in Boston.
