Biography

John P. Rooney has taught for more than 15 years in communication studies and other fields. His teaching emphasizes applied learning and career and life applicability, helping students translate foundational learning objectives—particularly in communication and financial literacy—into practical, transferable skills. He is known for integrating consulting-based projects, experiential assignments, professional communication strategy, and introductory website design to showcase learning. In addition to his work as a Part-Time Faculty Member, Rooney is Assistant Director for Transfer Student Success at URI, serves as President of the URI/NEA/NEARI Professional Staff Association (PSA), and is a strong advocate for disability access and inclusion across the university community. Rooney holds a BS in Business Administration and an MBA, both from URI.
