Dr. Timiebi Aganaba is an international lawyer and globally recognized scholar of space governance and planetary futures. She is an Assistant Professor and Founder of the Space Governance Lab in the School for the Future of Innovation in Society within the College of Global Futures at Arizona State University, where she also serves as a Senior Global Futures Scientist with the Global Futures Laboratory. Trained in international law, Dr. Aganaba has conducted space governance research across five countries, examining how legitimacy, institutional design, and strategic sovereignty shape humanity’s expansion beyond Earth. Her work bridges international law, systems thinking, and futures scholarship to develop frameworks for governance readiness under technological scale, which assess how institutions absorb, or fail to absorb, legitimacy strain under asymmetry and expansion. She has previously served as affiliate faculty with ASU’s Interplanetary Initiative and held a courtesy appointment at the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law. Through her research, public engagement, and advisory work, she advances forward-looking approaches to responsible space exploration, resource stewardship, and the ethical governance of emerging space infrastructures.
