Biography

Dr. Quashie is a sociologist whose work addresses the areas of population aging, family, health and wellbeing within a comparative international perspective. Her postdoctoral research includes positions within the Faculty of Social Sciences at TU Dortmund University, Germany and the College of Population Studies at Chulalongkorn University, Thailand.

 

Research

Dr. Quashie has two main ongoing lines of research. In the first she examines how societal conditions such as social welfare policy and socioeconomic inequality shape family support and caregiving among older adults across different societies. The second line of research examines how family dynamics including size, structure, and relations are associated with health and wellbeing in later life. Each research area is attentive to gender and socioeconomic disparities in older adults’ health and well-being. Her research covers global regions of Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia, and Europe.
