Thinking About Retirement?

 

Contributing ERSRI Pension Retirement Plan employees:

If you are an ERSRI Classified State Employee with an ERSRI Pension and 401a with TIAA, please contact a retirement representative at ERSRI (401) 462-7600 to assist with the preparation for this event; no earlier than a year before your intended retirement date.

Three month prior to your retirement date, once you have discussed retirement with ERSRI, please contact Jerrica Men in URI Employee Benefits at (401) 874-2533 to assist with the completion of your retirement packet. The following items will be needed and discussed:

Contributing 403(b) Defined Contribution Retirement Plan employees with BOG Medical Retirement Plan:

If you are a Council on Postsecondary Education employee with a 403(b) Retirement Choice Defined Contribution Plan, the following information will assist you in preparing for this special event!

Three months prior to your anticipated retirement date contact Jerrica Men in URI Employee Benefits at (401) 874-2533.  Jerrica will request some information from you in order to begin processing your retirement paperwork. Discussion points may include:

 

Contributing 403(b) Defined Contribution Retirement Plan employees without BOG Medical Retirement Plan and Faculty:

If you are a Council on Postsecondary Education employee with a 403(b) Retirement Choice Defined Contribution Plan, the following information will assist you in preparing for this special event!

Social Security and Retirement Plan Carriers:

Before retirement contact the Social Security Administration Office at 1-866-964-2038 (Warwick, RI).  You will be required to provide the following documents in order for Social Security to process your pension check:

  • Social security card
  • Birth certificate
  • Last year’s W-2 form
  • DD-214 military discharge forms (if applicable)
  • Spouse’s birth certificate and social security card will be needed if he/she is applying for benefits.

Your Social Security check must be deposited directly into your bank or credit union so have the name of your bank, your checking/savings account number, and the banks routing number with you. For More information on applying for your Social Security benefits, please visit the Social Security Administration web site.

After your retirement, contact your retirement plan provider: TIAA, MetLife or Corebridge (Valic/AIG), to discuss your withdrawal options.
