As the senior director of the Human Rights Team at the American Psychological Association (APA), Shari E. Miles-Cohen, PhD serves as the association’s primary expert on domestic human rights, overseeing the APA’s Ethnic Minority Affairs, Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity, and Women’s Portfolios.  In this capacity, she guides the application of psychological science to prepare, support, and encourage psychologists, other professionals, and the public to advance human rights, prevent all forms of discrimination, and to improve the health, welfare, and psychological well-being of marginalized populations, especially women, BIPOC, and LGBTQI+ persons. She also directs the APA Leadership Institute for Women and Psychology and is guiding the Committee on Ethnic Minority Affairs’ development of an anti-racism leadership institute for psychologists of color. She is also supervising the digitization of I am Psyched!, the first multimedia exhibit focused on the historical and contemporary contributions of women of color in psychology, for inclusion in the Smithsonian Learning Lab. Miles-Cohen, an APA Fellow, is a member of the Societies Consortium on Sexual Harassment in STEMM Executive Committee and other professional societies focused on gender, ethnicity and culture, social issues, disability, leadership, and philanthropy. She earned her PhD in personality psychology from Howard University.
