Listen to a reading of the Best Spots to Take a Break On Campus blog.
A few weeks ago, I wrote about simple things to be more mindful. An idea on that list was to move your location that is stressing you out. Here are some of my favorite spots to go on campus when I am starting to feel overwhelmed:
The Greenhouses
I think a great place to go to get a sigh of relief is the greenhouses at the top of campus. They are open to the public from 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. It always feels like summer there since it is meant for tropical plants. This area has colorful benches for students to sit on, paths through the plants, and a pond with fish, a turtle named Frank, and visits from local frogs. I love going to the greenhouses for a break from school work, or when I need to reconnect with myself.
193 Coffee House
The coffee house is located on the second floor of the memorial union next to the atriums. 193 has a rich history, and a great community feeling. Whenever I walk in it is filled with good vibes, and smiling faces. It also has a great perk that a small coffee is only $1. Next time you need to pick me up, make sure you have some cash on you and go check it out.
Third Floor of the Library
My final favorite place to go on campus may seem controversial to the idea of taking a break. However it is a peaceful place to focus. The third floor of the library is a silent study place, and if you can find a spot by the windows that’s where I love to go. I think the library in general is a great place, but I love a quiet place and everyone else there will always be on the same page as you. A bonus is sitting next to a window while it’s raining and the sound of typing gets drowned out by the sound of rain falling. It is very peaceful and I have had very productive study sessions there.
A reminder that the environment contributes to headspace. So the more comfortable you feel in the place you’re in, the better your mind will feel at ease. This is a great way to reset, refocus and get productive.
What are some of your favorite places to go on campus? Did I miss any noteworthy study spots?
