Welcome URI students to our 6th annual Sock Madness competition! Every year, students get the chance to show off their creativity by submitting pictures of their fun socks into a March Madness bracket through the official Campus Recreation Instagram page @uricampusrec. In collaboration with our Campus Rec Marketing Team, Intramural Sports hosts the campaign, which always proves to be a fierce competition amongst students.
Voting begins on March 17th on our Instagram story, and students have from February 23 to March 11 to submit their socks. Along with the March Madness tournament, the bracket will be made available on March 13th at 8:00 p.m. on the Campus Rec Instagram page. The overall bracket winner will be awarded a $100 Amazon gift card, and second place will receive a $50 Amazon gift card. The third and fourth place finishers will also receive $25 Amazon gift cards. All voting will take place on Instagram stories, so be sure to follow us @uricampusrec for updates.
The men’s and women’s NCAA Division I basketball tournaments, also known as march madness, is the single elimination tournament held every March to determine the national champions. The March Madness brackets are a popular activity amongst basketball fans to fill out their predictions for the tournament, playing a huge role in the experience. Taking inspiration from that, Campus Rec and Intramural Sports hosts our annual Sock Madness competition that drives students to get creative and competitive as a part of the URI experience.
All types of socks are welcome, from designs that are manufactured to self-made. Last year’s Sock Madness brought out some amazing submissions: students showed off socks featuring their favorite characters, funny quotes, and wacky patterns that highlighted their personal style! In the final round in last year’s competition, it was toe-to-toe between a pair of PB & J socks captioned “I’m Allergic” versus a Converse-shoe design captioned “Socks?” Previous brackets were just as creative, with standout entries like “Endless Pastabilities”, “Skate ‘N Eggs”, and “Cutie Racoons”. Each year, Sock Madness becomes more than just a competition- it’s a campus-wide tradition that sparks community building and brings students together both on and off campus. The goal of this March Madness inspired challenge is to celebrate originality and have fun, whether you’re submitting your most chaotic or your most artsy pair.
