Drop, Swap, Shop

Drop, Swap, Shop

Looking to clear out your closets before heading home for the holidays? Hoping to find some new clothes for the winter? Drop, Swap, and Shop is just the thing for you! Campus Recreation’s Drop, Swap, and Shop is an annual incentive that allows students to get rid of clothes they no longer want and to browse through other articles donated by their peers. Taking place during November and December, students can drop off any clothing they no longer need or want right in the lobby of the Anna Fascitelli Fitness and Wellness Center. This event promotes our Campus Rec mission as it allows for students to contribute in a meaningful way in their community, while promoting well-being and sustainability.

How it Works

Beginning November 19th, students were encouraged to bring any piece of clothing and drop it off in the lobby of Anna Fascitelli Fitness and Wellness Center. The drop lasted until December 6th. This is a great way to clean out your closet before the holiday season. After the drop period begins, swap. From December 3rd-6th, Campus Rec promotes students to continue bringing clothes to drop off, but they can also swap out a piece of clothing for other dropped-off articles. Finally, from December 6th to the 10th, is the shop period. Here, anyone can browse through the selection of clothing and take home whatever they would like for free.

Last year, Drop, Swap, and Shop was a major success. Students brought all kinds of clothing, from winter attire to workout clothes, shoes, and more, there was a wide variety to pick from. Before or after a workout, students had the opportunity to check out their peers’ unwanted clothing and choose something to take home with them right before the holiday season. These incentives are important on college campuses as they enhance community with no cost.

The holiday season can often be consumed by overspending with the stress of buying new clothes, gifts, or whatever it may be. All too often, we find ourselves spending money and overconsuming, especially on clothes. Drop, Swap, and Shop takes out the financial struggle of receiving new clothes during this holiday season, allowing for mindful consumption. Be sure to check out the lobby of the wellness center; there are plenty of clothes to choose from, ranging from shoes to winter coats!

Not only does our mission enhance financial wellness, but environmental well being. This event is one of our most popular sustainability initiatives, offering all students a simple and easy way to participate. Thrifting and swapping used clothes is more environmentally friendly than buying firsthand. Drop, Swap, and Shop is truly a win-win for students, allowing them to receive new clothing for no cost, while at the same time enhancing sustainability.

Anna Fascitelli Fitness and Wellness Center is not only a place to work out, but also a community center on campus that brings students together. Hosting wellness events, group exercise classes, and incentives such as Drop, Swap, and Shop, Anna Fascitelli Fitness and Wellness Center is truly a place for everyone on campus. We know the last few weeks of the semester are hectic for everyone, but it only takes a few minutes out of your day to stop by the Anna Fascitelli Fitness and Wellness Center. Take a study break and head on over to do some thrifting before heading home for the holidays. Good luck with finals and the last week of classes, Rams!
