Senior Water Exercise with Campus Rec

Looking to get involved in your community this year or a way to stay active over the winter? Our Senior Water Exercise program encourages adults 55 and older to remain active over the winter while connecting with others. URI Campus Recreation not only enhances well-being for students, but also creates initiatives for local community members. This upcoming program invites adults to participate and familiarize themselves with the water through a weekly guided course. The Tootell Aquatic Center is a friendly, community environment that is the perfect place to meet new people and get connected.

The program takes place from January 21st and runs through May 6th, getting individuals comfortable in the water just in time for going to the beach! Held in Campus Rec’s Tootell Aquatic Center, the classes will take place Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, from 8:30 a.m.-9:30 a.m. Throughout the hour, the class will include a variety of aquatic workouts, ranging from dance movements to exercises that involve equipment. With the intention of bettering adults’ stamina and strength in the water, each class will target all muscle groups, along with joint mobility movements. The classes will also implement water aerobic movements, which offer a low-impact workout that enhances movement in a positive, inclusive environment.

Get Involved this Year

Campus Rec upholds the values of physical well-being, along with students getting involved and finding a sense of belonging. This extends beyond students and is upheld across the entire Campus Rec community. Senior Water Exercise encourages adults to better their physical well-being and get involved in their community in a low-stakes, safe, and uplifting environment. With a variety of movements and exercises, classes will be effective and inclusive for all adults with various abilities. The Senior Water Exercise program is the perfect way to start off your morning, by getting in some exercise with other community members. It is always a good time to learn something new or develop a skill that you are unfamiliar with. In this new year, challenge yourself to get out of your comfort zone and participate in something that will better you physically and will allow for community engagement.
The program will be taught by certified aquatic instructors. With registration open now, be sure to check out our website through this link to sign up, or sign up in person at our Mackal Field House. The program cost varies from $72-$160. Be sure to bring a bathing suit, a towel, and a positive attitude. We look forward to seeing you!
