Every second counts during emergencies, and you have the power to make a difference. This spring, Campus Rec is offering various courses of the American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid for the Professional Rescuer Course from February to April. This course is designed for anyone who has requirements as a lifeguard or a first responder to be prepared in case of an emergency. This course is designed for anyone who wants to learn First Aid skills to be prepared in case of an emergency.
Whether you work for Campus Rec, are a student leader, participate in club sports, or are a member of the URI community, this course equips you with the knowledge and skills to handle breathing and cardiac emergencies until more qualified assistance is available. You will also learn how to use an AED, identify sudden illness, handle cold-related situations, and provide first aid for fractures, bleeding, and more.

These courses will be held in the Anna Fascitelli Seminar Room, 18 Butterfield Rd. Those who are eligible to register for these courses include URI students and community, Campus Rec staff, and Club Sports participants. The cost varies: Members: $103, Non-Members: $132, Campus Rec Staff: $36, and Club Sports Participants: $103. Some skill sessions require intense physical activity. Please dress comfortably and avoid wearing jewelry that hangs loosely or has sharp edges. Before starting the course, talk to your instructor and healthcare provider about any medical conditions or disabilities you may have, as well as concerns about your ability to fully participate. You are required to attend the full course, actively participate in all scenarios and hands-on sessions, show preparation throughout, and earn at least 80% on the final written exam to complete certification.
