XV Progress in Motor Control Conferences (PMC) took place at the University of Rhode Island on June 30th – July 2nd, 2025. This international conference was organized by Dr. Mariusz Furmanek and other members of the Physical Therapy and Kinesiology departments. The conference is the biennial meeting of the International Society of Motor Control (ISMC) and sought to stimulate and foster education and open debate among attendees and present on basics and applied research in the area of motor control. Invited speakers included Physical Therapists, Engineers, Occupation Therapists, Medical Doctors, Psychologists and Physicists. Five current members; David Ornstein (Ph.D Candidate), Tyler Foster (Ph.D. Student), Hunter Shaw (Masters Student), Kylie Mcphee (Masters Student) and Tayyabba Nosheen (Ph.D Student) as well as one former member; Michal Pawlowski (Assistant Professor) participated/presented their research at the conference.
This conference was a great opportunity for the graduate students in the Motor Control and Rehabilitation Lab. David and Tyler served as members of the conference organizing committee and were able to organize an optional student centered panel titled “The Road to Academia: Opportunities, Obstacles, and Advice for Early-Career Researchers,” this interactive panel featured a diverse group of assistant and associate professors who shared their individual journeys into academia and offered practical guidance for students aspiring to enter the field. This conference is unique due to the fact that it provides many networking social opportunities for attendees. Both during conference and at after hour social events MCR lab members were able to meet and speak with other Ph.D students and researchers from schools as close as Northeastern and Penn States to those as far away as Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in Germany. This conference was an unbelievable learning opportunity.
