Alyssa Tsukada, an SMD second-year PhD student and Graduate Plankton Assistant for the Narragansett Bay Plankton Time Series, recently attended the Karen A. Steidinger Marine Harmful Algae Taxonomy Training Course at Bigelow Laboratories in Maine. The two-week course consisted of practicing single-cell isolations for culture and DNA analysis, identifying key characteristics of HAb species under light and electron microscopy, and learning about different cell enumeration instrumentation.
