Cynthia Beth Rubin presents at Creative Tech Week
Our lives as humans are bound to the rarely seen and the invisible microscopic life of the ocean. Constructed as nearly abstract paintings, these works invite the viewer to swim with the plankton, the jellyfish, and the krill that make life on our planet sustainable. Raw source material is from Antarctica and the North Atlantic, as well as microscopic captures of plankton from Narragansett Bay, interpreted both digitally and in hand drawings. The works are collaborations between digital artist Cynthia Beth Rubin and Oceanographers in the Menden-Deuer lab at the University of Rhode Island, who gathered the raw imagery from oceans near and far.
