Alyssa Tsukada

Biography

Alyssa graduated with her Bachelors of Science in Environmental Science as part of Western Washington University’s class of 2022. Afterwhich, she worked at WWU as a full-time scientific instrument manager, with an emphasis on high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), fluorescent confocal microscopy (FCM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and MALDI mass-spectrometry. 

Alyssa began her PhD in biological oceanography at GSO in 2025. She is currently working as the Plankton Assistant for Narragansett Bay’s Plankton Time Series and is a part of the Northeast US Shelf Long-Term Ecological Research (NES-LTER) program. Her research interests center on phytoplankton ecology and carbon cycling with an emphasis on science communication.
