Susanna Majkut

Biography

Susanna is a double major Ocean Engineering and Spanish student with the school’s International Engineering Program. During her time so far in the lab, Susanna has helped maintain plankton cultures through assisting with regular feedings and transfers. Additionally, she has been able to hone her microscopy skills while learning to identify and image plankton species. While she is not in the lab, Susanna is on a research grant with URI’s undergraduate research program, in which she and her team are developing a middle school bilingual curriculum centered around viewing plankton through a cheaper microscope. As well as this, Susanna is a junior ambassador for the College of Engineering, a member of the school’s Hydrobotics team, and made Dean’s List her first semester.

Research

Susanna is interested in learning more about plankton and their relevance to our changing climate. She is also interested in applying engineering skills to her lab work, including working with MATLAB code.

Education

Susanna is entering her second year at URI, studying both Ocean Engineering and Spanish.
