You also will collaborate with the Metcalf team to develop, implement, and evaluate training programs and the biennial Inclusive SciComm Symposium. The Inclusive SciComm Program Specialist will:

• Develop and sustain partnerships to support and expand the global Inclusive SciComm community of practice;
• Stay abreast of the inclusive science communication landscape to inform Metcalf Institute strategies and projects;
• Develop programs, resources, and networking opportunities to engage various audiences in learning about and developing relevant skills for the research and practice of inclusive science communication; and
• Collaborate with the full Metcalf Institute team to plan, implement, and evaluate programs, including but not limited to the Inclusive SciComm Symposium, grant-funded workshops and seminars, public lectures and webinars, and fee-based trainings.

Unique Professional Development Opportunities

This position was created in collaboration with the Civic Science* Associate Program. Civic Science Associates are early career professionals working to further research, practice, infrastructure, and network-building to advance civic science culture change. As a Civic Science Associate, the Program Specialist will have access to unique professional development opportunities and will become part of a broader community that will help achieve the Specialists’ goals in this position. The Program Specialist will have the opportunity to:

• Participate in plenary and networking gatherings, workshops, and other events with other members of the civic science network with Civic Science Fellows and host and funding partners;
• Gain access to a civic science resource library, including tools, recordings, and other learning components developed through the Civic Science Fellows program, and opportunities to contribute to these resources;
• Participate in design review teams and other feedback- and collaboration-focused opportunities to inform and help shape program resources, events, and structures;
• Access a program Slack channel and other communication channels available to the network to share ideas, asks, offers, and opportunities for connection.

COMPENSATION, BENEFITS & WORK LOCATION

Salary range for the role is $50,821-$76,151 and is commensurate with lived and professional experience. The position will be based at the University of Rhode Island’s Kingston campus, six miles from Narragansett Bay, 30 miles from Providence, the state capitol, and nestled on the coast between Boston and New York. URI offers a generous benefits program including health insurance, retirement, and leave. While this position requires a physical presence in Rhode Island, occasional remote work is possible.
