While some uncertainty is inevitable in scientific research, communicating uncertainty to a broad, non-expert audience presents its own set of challenges.
Dr. Jean Goodwin, distinguished professor of communication and member of the Leadership in Public Science cluster at North Carolina State University, presented a mini-workshop on best practices for navigating the challenges of communicating with public audiences about the inherent uncertainty in research on Friday, October 16.
Participants will be better equipped to handle questions from non-experts, including the press, other researchers, family and friends.
Jean Goodwin joined NC State in August 2016 as a Chancellor’s Faculty Excellence Program cluster hire in Leadership in Public Science. Goodwin, a professor in the Department of Communication, studies how scientists can communicate appropriately and effectively to non-expert audiences. Learn more.
This session satisfies a CDP Certificate elective.
