Biography
Yvette Cabrera is a 2025-2026 Knight Science Journalism Fellow at MIT who covers climate and environmental justice issues. She has reported extensively on the pervasiveness of toxic lead contamination, including the series Ghosts of Polluters Past, an investigation on the legacy of lead pollution in urban residential neighborhoods. Her reporting won a 2023 international Sigma Award for Data Journalism, and a 2023 Eric and Wendy Schmidt Award for Excellence in Science Communications from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine. She is immediate past president of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, and is a founding member of The Uproot Project, a network for environmental journalists of color.
