Metcalf Institute seeks a full-time communications specialist to help advance its mission to engage diverse public audiences in evidence-based conversations about critical environmental issues.
Metcalf Institute is a global leader in professional development training, benefiting more than 3200 journalists, scientists, and science communicators since 1998. Our proven training model has a significant multiplier effect, helping millions of people worldwide access accurate, contextual environmental news coverage and research findings that relate environmental science and justice to daily lives and sparking essential conversations to address these complex issues. Metcalf Institute advocates for and amplifies marginalized and underrepresented perspectives in science, journalism, and science communication through our trainings and programs for public audiences. We support a growing international network of science communicators via the biennial Inclusive SciComm Symposium to prioritize inclusive, equitable, intersectional approaches to science communication and to dismantle the legacies of exclusion across related professions.

The Metcalf Institute communications specialist will manage all aspects of communications for Metcalf Institute to engage its audiences and partners and to sustain and elevate the profile of the Institute. The person in this position is responsible for promoting and recruiting for Institute activities through strategic, inclusive communications across all forms of media, publicity coordination across multiple initiatives, and relationship-building activities with the Institute’s many constituencies, including journalists, scientists, science communicators, alumni, and donors. This position collaborates closely with the Institute’s entire professional team.
