The URI Hydrorobotics team sent five members to Irvine, California to compete in RoboSub 2025, an international competition that challenges students to design, build, and test an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) that can compete in areas relevant to the maritime industry, including oceanographic exploration, manipulating objects, or pipeline identification and tracking. The team faced steep odds after their AUV, the Tardigrade, drifted in the water during qualifiers due to a buoyancy error. But they persevered and made it to the semi-finals. Overall, the team placed 22nd out of 58 teams, and they look forward to improving their AUV for next year. Navy STEM is proud to sponsor this group of students.
