The Noyce Scholars program is funded by the National Science Foundation for the purpose of recruiting students pursuing Science, Computer Science, Engineering and Math degrees, and Career Changers who hold a BS in a STEM Field, to teach science or mathematics in K-12 schools.
By encouraging talented STEM students and professionals to pursue teaching careers in K-12 schools, this program responds to the critical need for teachers of STEM subjects and will increase the number of teachers with comprehensive knowledge of STEM content.
The scholarship for juniors and seniors is $15,000/year renewable for a maximum of two years providing that all conditions are met. The stipend for Master’s of Arts, Teacher Certification Program (MA/TCP) is $35,000 for one year.

Potential scholarship/stipend recipients will be asked to participate in an interview if selected as a URI Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship finalist.

_____ Transcript showing a 2.75 overall cumulative GPA; a 2.50 GPA in education courses and in each area of certification.
______ Program of study for the Noyce Scholar years that will lead to STEM content and teacher certification.
______ Two letters of recommendation that evaluate your potential for success in science or mathematics teaching.
______ Essay answering the following prompts (500 word limit):
- Describe a time that you learned something from someone with a different life experience, cultural background or upbringing from you and what you learned.
- Describe any previous experiences you have had with children or adolescents.
- What personal goals do you hope to accomplish by becoming a Noyce Teacher Scholar?
- What interests you about teaching in a high-need school district?
Checklist for Career changers

_______ Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field.
_______ Transcript GPA of 3.0 and minimum grade of C in science and math courses per URI Graduate School Requirements
