Elizabeth Hansel is the Manager of Environmental Affairs for Vineyard Wind, LLC, overseeing environmental permitting and compliance. Vineyard Wind is an offshore wind developer slated to build the first commercial-scale offshore wind energy project in the United States. Focused on advancing marine technologies for protected species, Elizabeth collaborates with the science community and other stakeholders for responsible offshore wind development. Elizabeth joined Vineyard Wind with a decade of environmental permitting and regulatory compliance experience in the energy and utility industry. Elizabeth started her career in the renewable energy industry researching biofuel development at a Rhode Island-based R&D laboratory.

Elizabeth is a graduate of the University of Rhode Island with a degree in Marine Biology and a minor in Marine Affairs and is an alumni of URI’s Coastal Fellow program. An avid scuba diver and shark enthusiast, Elizabeth volunteers as an educator with the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy’s Gills Club, a STEM-based education initiative aimed at connecting young women with female scientists to inspire shark and ocean conservation.
