Maria Manz is a student at the Graduate School of Oceanography, where she is working with Dr. Bradley Wetherbee to examine the spatial ecology of shortfin mako sharks in the Western North Atlantic relative to jurisdictional waters, designated EFHs and MPAs, as well as offshore wind proposed leased lots and oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico. They hope to expand this research to look more in-depth at the interaction between shortfin mako shark habitat and offshore wind development areas.

Manz received a B.S. in Environmental Science from Moravian College where she conducted research on the effects of ocean acidification on predator-prey relationships as well as the spatial ecology of painted turtles in the Lehigh Gap.
