Grant Writing Essentials (Level 1) focuses on the fundamental skills of grant writing, focusing on research, planning, building a budget, creating project timelines, and understanding funding sources. Participants also have an opportunity to explore the more advanced aspects of writing and submitting grant proposals through Grant Writing Intensive workshops (Level 2).
Meet the Experts
Your Facilitators

Gayla Gazerro
Gayla has over twenty-five years of experience in evaluation, assessment, collaboration building, and policy research, and over thirty years of proven professional experience building and sustaining long-term projects and partnerships between education institutions and systems, and corporate and community entities. Ms. Gazerro has worked on the development and implementation of both large and small-scale public and private grant program initiatives and evaluations. As a professional evaluator on Federal, State, and locally funded projects, she assesses the impacts and outcomes of project goals and objectives, and ensures compliance with reporting and technical requirements through evaluations for the National Science Foundation, U.S. National Institute if Health (NIH); the US Department of Education, the US Department of Justice, and the US Department of Housing and Urban Development. She is currently certified in IRB Human Subjects research and Conflict of Interest protocols and procedures.

Caley Logsdon
Caley is a learning experience developer with a diverse skill set that spans instructional design, curriculum design, training and facilitation, artificial intelligence, augmented/virtual reality, and learning management systems. With over 10 years in the higher education, non-profit, healthcare, and pharmaceutical sectors; Caley has created innovative, inclusive learning experiences for adults across a wide variety of workplaces. Her specializations include social entrepreneurship, data visualization and storytelling, grant management and tracking, diversifying funding portfolios, and AI applications for social good.
Program Faculty Advisor

Frank Romanelli
URI OSI Grant Writing program offerings were developed in collaboration with our faculty expert, Associate Teaching Professor Frank Romanelli. Frank has taught extensively, written, and coordinated project-based learning across lived, blended, and virtual education environments. He specializes in Public and Professional Writing, has facilitated courses on topics like Proposal Writing for Clients, and led workshops on emerging trends in artificial intelligence applications for writing and teaching. Frank has also served as the director and Digital Pedagogy Specialist for the Writing Production Lab (now the Digital Writing and Research Studio) and as the Assistant Director at the Media Education Lab.
