Concurrent Enrollment Program

Overview

The Concurrent Enrollment Program at the University of Rhode Island is designed for motivated students, typically juniors and seniors, who seek to get a head start on college credit and who are looking to be challenged academically while in high school.

The State of Rhode Island covers the cost for public high school students to enroll in a concurrent course at their high school during the fall and spring terms. Course costs for concurrent courses offered at private schools are not covered under this state-funded program. Additionally, homeschooled students are not eligible for course costs to be covered.

Students are expected to have a 3.0 minimum high school GPA. Justification to enroll freshmen or sophomore students for URI credit requires a letter from the school affirming that these students have shown academic achievement indicated by a 3.0 GPA. Freshmen enrollments should occur in the spring semester so that High Schools have a chance to assess if the student is achieving a minimum 3.0 GPA.

In order to receive a URI transcript for the HS course, students are required to follow all URI enrollment procedures and complete the enrollment process by the university registration dates listed below.
