Up until January 12th, 2023, most providers were not allowed to manage medication-assisted therapy (MAT) without additional training and a Data Waiver granted by the state; therefore, many providers and pharmacists are not familiar with or do not have experience with the practice of prescribing MAT.

The practice gap that has been identified is the extended time to post-intubation sedation following rapid sequence intubation. This is due primarly to differences among the pharmacokinetic parameters of commonly used induction agents and NMBAs leading to the potential for patients to experience wakeful paralysis.
