Our Work

The University of Rhode Island partners with healthcare organizations to develop targeted trainings based on the educational needs of the healthcare workforce. From Mental Health First Aid Training at primary care practices to Quality Improvement Training at Accountable Care Organizations, we have the resources to support a wide variety of healthcare training needs. We support the efforts of the Rhode Island Executive Office of Health and Human Services (EOHHS) to bolster the workforce in the Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) sector. Our work is supported by EOHHS as well as the RI Department of Labor and Training through a Real Jobs RI Partnership, Transforming Health In Rhode Island.

About

Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) Training Programs

Educational activities targeted for eligible HCBS sites are offered both virtually and in-person. Online activities are designed to allow learners to complete a training at their own pace. In some cases, learners must also complete a program evaluation. A valid email address and a professional identification or license number (driver’s license, state ID, employee ID, health license, etc.) are needed in order to create a user account.

The Home and Community-Based Services funding specifically supports healthcare paraprofessionals offering direct care to individuals in an eligible home and community-based setting. Healthcare paraprofessionals include certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), Community Healthcare Workers, Behavior Technicians, Direct Support Professionals (DSPs), and qualified mental health professionals (QMHP), etc. However, licensed clinical healthcare professionals such as Social Workers, Nurses, Pharmacists, Physicians, Physician Assistants (PAs), and licensed Mental Health Counselors are not eligible. Licensed clinical healthcare professionals are entitled to free CE credits for the Community First Responders Program for Health Care
