Overview

Pre-conception medication counseling provided by pharmacists is essential for promoting healthy pregnancy outcomes. Evaluating a patient’s current medication list prior to conception allows pharmacists to identify potential teratogens, recommend safer alternatives, and collaborate with other healthcare providers to optimize therapy. Women who are planning pregnancy or are in early pregnancy frequently seek guidance from their healthcare team regarding the safety of their medications. Given that a full-term pregnancy lasts approximately nine months, many women will encounter seasonal respiratory viruses, particularly during peak circulation in colder months. This often leads to questions about how to safely manage symptoms such as cough, congestion, fever, and sore throat while minimizing risk to the fetus.
